Hi there! Thanks for dropping by my portfolio! I’m Joon, currently a rising junior at Yonsei University majoring in International Studies. Before discovering UX, many a time I’ve felt overwhelmed by the sight of architecturally vast yet ultimately incoherent systems that gave only but the illusion of solvency.
As a self-taught product designer, I’m still struggling to find my own way, but I remain confident in the ability of collaborative design to translate complex systems into beautifully natural interactions.
Recently, I was a product growth manager at LOVO AI, where I worked closely with the founding team to achieve key performance goals.
I’m also the founder of Dongari, a platform where students can pick and choose the collaboration tools they need to build customizable online communities.
You can probably find me arguing with members of my college debate society, sitting in a cafe trying to write something remotely original on Final Draft, or annoying friends with the latest dad joke I found.
LearnUs Redesign
Yonsei University’s ambitious LMS-MOOC hybrid platform led to a populist revolt by students.
Zoom for Students
The Zoom everyone knows, just optimized with student-centric features.
Onboarding Page Builder
A white-label page builder for anyone to create personalized onboarding messages.
UNdata Redesign
Making the UN’s largest public database more digestible for the average person.
teemwork.io
A frictionless online tool for students to easily collaborate on group projects.
Experience
I served as the president of the Yonsei Underwood Union, my university’s varsity parliamentary debate society.
I worked on registration and communications as a program associate for the 41st World Universities Debating Championship hosted by Debate Korea.
I was a consultant for the D&B Consulting Group, an online tutoring agency specializing in international admissions. The core team hails from Oxford, Georgetown, Stanford, and other universities.
I led a delegation to MWC as a project manager at TwoNumber, and represented the company at the global venture investment showcase organized by KOTRA.
I previously founded a startup called Palette, a web platform that helped students and organizations discover, register for, and keep a record of their extracurricular activities.
A team comprised of SNU, Sungkyunkwan, and Yonsei student developers and designers produced an MVP, received mentorship from the 1517 Fund, and collaborated with the Yonsei Enterprise Support Foundation on a government grant proposal.
I was a communications intern at DelegatePal, the first open-source research tool for Model UN delegates. The project provided easy access to UN databanks and legislative records, as well as curated educational resources for students.
Personal Notes
I’ve had a nomadic upbringing, growing up in cities like Chicago, Seoul, Qingdao, and Bogota. So I speak 4 languages!
As a self-declared film buff, I love reading and writing screenplays 🎬. I’ve found that there’s something creatively therapeutic about the screenwriting process: it’s a chance to construct characters and dialogue that reflect one's coming of age, and ultimately illuminate a vulnerable but shared humanity that anyone can empathize with. Ask me about the screenplay I’m currently failing to write!
I enjoy playing racket sports like tennis 🎾 and table tennis 🏓. I’m an avid watcher of the ATP and WTA tours, and captained the Appenzeller table tennis team for a while.
I’m a casual online chess player. Feel free to add me on chess.com! I’d be happy to showcase my one-trick Caro Kann. Although you should know that my IQ drops by 70% whenever I play blitz or bullet.
The immortal soundtracks of Forrest Gump, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Cowboy Bebop, The Intouchables, and Rushmore are the soundtracks to my life 🎸.
